Diam yang pasti menghancurkan

Bangun bergerak menuju ke komputer. Tetikus diskrol mencari lagu. Quiet - This Will Destroy You ditekan, bergema bunyi synthesizer not pertama. 

Mata terkatup, fikiran menerawang dibawa arus nota-nota musik. Nafas ditarik panjang dan dilepaskan, tangan mula menari di papan kekunci, mengikut rentak post-rock yang menelaah jauh ke dalam rongga perasaan serta fikiran. 

'Pengalaman di tanah orang banyak mengajar erti kesabaran. Satu amanah yang dipegang sebagai satu janji, bukan kepada siapa-siapa tetapi kepada diri sendiri.'

'Siapa pun takkan tahan meneliti keadaan. Gergasi pendidikan yang selama ini dilambang sebagai ampuh sebenarnya sedang terketar-ketar berjalan. Nafas tersesak. Virus-virus kian merebak, menjalar ke seluruh sistem.'

'Tambah dibentak apabila kian waktu terpanar oleh usaha-usaha kecil untuk menampung lompong-lompong yang semakin menjejes kekotoran. Kotor, jijik, namun dibilas dengan senyuman plastik dan laporan palsu.'

Tangan terhenti menari seiring bridge.

Masa seakan-akan memandang kaku. Nafas dihela sekali lagi namun kini senyuman kecil terkutil.

'Tangan-tangan kecil yang semakin galak menyambut jatuh gergasi terpaku di dalam fikiran. Tatkala pendidikan cuma menjadi bahan bualan antara politikus atau pimpinan jabatan atau secara rambang diwarung-warung sosial, ada tangan-tangan ini yang berbual dengan tenaga, bercakap dengan keringat dan berceloteh dengan titik peluh.'

Kemuncak nota-nota musik kian surut, diheret ketenangan pada malam itu. 

'Usaha mereka dalam diam ini pasti bakal menjadi penawar kepada segala virus dan bakteria yang menjangkiti gergasi pendidikan' 

'Namun mereka lain yang berdiam juga akan menjadi bala bantuan menambah kerosakan kepada jangkitan.'

Kekallah berdiam. Diam yang pasti akan menghancurkan.

Vocabulary Game

A simple vocabulary game which can be done to suit any level.

1. Divide students into small groups.

2. Provide each group with dictionary. I suggest 2 dictionaries for a group of 4.

3. Give students the first word. For example I gave the word 'fame'

4. Each student will take turn to write a new meaningful word based from the word given. The student can only change one letter of the word at a time.

5. They can refer to the dictionary to find words. 

6. The group with the most number of meaningful words win the game.

Extra note:

1. I ask my students to write the meaning of the words they write and ask them to explain the meaning to their friends when we go through the wordlist they have created.

2. My students are in form 3, I did the game for only 15 minutes. Throughout this game, they found and used many words they have never come across before!

The Whisper Game!

Since you will have PT3 listening and speaking tests in three years time, let's play the Whisper Game!

Instructions:

1. 10 people in a group.

2. Line up in a straight line.

3. Teacher whispers the sentence to the 10th student.

4. The student then takes turn to whisper until it reaches the 1st student.

5. The 1st student writes on a piece of paper.

6. Repeat the steps with other students and give more sentences.

7. The group with the most accurate sentences win!

Note:

- A great activity to reinforce certain sentence elements by giving similar sentence structures.

- in a cooperative class, teacher can discuss student's answers in front of the class to highlight their mistakes and provide corrections.
